We're pleased to announce that we've recently renewed our Cyber Essentials certification, and we've done it to the best possible standard by obtaining Cyber Essentials Plus.
Cyber Essentials plus is the highest level of technical cybersecurity accreditation available from the UK government. We think it's very important to hold ourselves to the same high standards we implement for our customers, and we're delighted to get those standards rubber-stamped.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK government accreditation, that aims to introduce a set of security standards for organisations to adopt in order to protect themselves against cyber crime, fraud, scams, and hacking. We like to think of it as a guideline set of operational practices that, if followed, should offer a decent level of cybersecurity protection. It's by far the be all and end all though, and it's one thing recommending standards, ensuring all staff follow them is another.
What's the difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials is the basic level of cybersecurity accreditation, only requiring a self assessment to be completed. Essentially, an organisation needs to apply and attest that they follow the recommendations and standards outlined by Cyber Essentials. Once that's done, as long as your self-assessment demonstrates you're doing the right things, you'll get a certificate in the post, and your organisation will be Cyber Essentials certified.
Cyber essentials plus, involves the same self assessment, but introduces a technical assessment too, that aims to check your organisation is following the standards outlined in the Cyber Essentials spec. This is the harder level of certification to achieve because obviously, it requires an organisation to demonstrate, and not just say, they are following the standards and recommendations in Cyber Essentials.
Should I get Cyber Essentials?
Yes. We believe every organisation in the UK who wants to protect themselves from cyber criminals should aim for Cyber Essentials accreditation. Whilst it's by far from a complete cyber defence strategy, it's a great start, and a good baseline to work from to introduce security standards to your organisation. The certification itself can also be a great way to show commitment to your customers and potential clients, letting them know you're actively working to keep any data of theirs safe and secure.
How can Impelling help?
We get organisations ready for Cyber Essentials by introducing security standards, and ensuring users are comfortable going about their digital work in a security conscious manner. We implement technical processes and systems that enforce security standards without getting in the way of user experience. In short, we lay the groundwork for Cyber Essentials accreditation to happen, ensuring your organisation is doing all the right things, before the accreditation process happens.
If you'd like to find out more about how Impelling can help your organisation with their cybersecurity practices, or about obtaining Cyber Essentials accreditation, , we would love to help.
